How quickly should you expect a response to your online dating email?

Hi Annie, I'm an energetic entrepreneur from Down Under. I've been in the U.S. off and on for a few years now and am finally settling in. I am doing online dating and have continued to be frustrated that women do not return my emails or texts within 24 hours. It feels disrespectful. I don't treat anyone that way, either professionally or personally. I'm looking for the same respect in return: at a minimum. Should I keep my high standards or should I change my views? OKCupid, a fast-growing online dating site has been mining their data to produce some interesting studies. They recently studied their largest demographic, the 18-39 group, and came up with this study. It's a fun, friendly site, which is now attracting daters of all ages.

Annie, you say that when you are choosing a mate, you are making a decision based on who he is right now, not who he will be at as he moves through the rigors of life. Aren’t we supposed to have a sense of this when dating and make decisions based on it? Elizabeth

I met "Joe" about 2 months ago. He swept me off my feet. He sent me flowers, called constantly, and told me that he couldn't believe how lucky he was to have met me. He said that he'd never met anyone like me. We went out a two or three times a week, spent weekends together, and our dates were incredibly romantic. We had long, meaningful conversations, and he was always complimenting me. Sex was amazing. I was convinced that we could have a fantastic future together.
