Dear Annie,
Where are all of the single men? I tried online dating and it was a disaster. A friend fixed me up on a blind date, and it was one of the longest evenings of my life. Am I doomed to a life alone unless I move to Alaska?
Please help! Gail

Dear Gail,
Do you remember those childhood puzzles where you had a picture, and you had to find 10 animals hidden in the picture? Once you figured out how to approach seeing differently, they were easy to spot. The same goes for meeting single men (or women). They are disguised by their surroundings - it's not like old Hawaii where a hibiscus in the appropriate ear signals availability. Wedding rings indicate marriage. Lack of a ring means nothing.
Single people are in the grocery store, in lines, in the library, taking classes, hiking, going to arts events, etc. - just like you are. At midlife, most of them are not sending off signals saying, "I'm available", so there is only one way to find out if someone is single and that is to make contact and talk to them. Slow down, so that you see people you might ordinarily pass by. Smile. Say hello. Have fun with this, and people will respond positively to you. You'll soon be meeting all kinds of people, some of them single.
As to online dating - you can successfully meet men in that format - I can teach you how to eliminate the riff-raff! Coaching gives you confidence that you can successfully handle any dating situation. Email
